JamLab Lessons

I tought myself how to play the guitar when I was in the sixth grade. Conventional guitar lessons just weren't for me. I gradually taught a few of my friends little things until they became passionate and dove in with the same dedication I had when teaching myself. I found that playing the guitar with other people, in a loose ∧ casual atmosphere, opened up huge deposits of creativity which allowed me to push myself and my abilities further. I wanted to flip conventional guitar instruction on it's head and offer guitar lessons (in person and as video tutorials on a companion website). This is very simplified and obviously it's more structured but the framework of the concept is simple:

  • Teach student whatever songs they love and want to learn.
  • Take detours and teach some of histories most identifiable riffs.
  • Re-arrange a few chords and play some lead over the top.
  • Blow their mind... point out that they have already written their very first original song.
  • This breaks down a barrier and makes guitar lessons exponentially more enjoyable while encouraging at home experimentation of different chord arrangements and structures. It has been my experience that this breeds a much deeper interest in learning and creates more passion whereas going over theory and scales, and chords is a tediously boring task that students tire of quickly and are less likely to practice with the dedication that is needed.
